Session 2: Technically Speaking

This session provided me with window into the more technical aspects of choreography and how a director of a dance company drills his team to be efficient on stage and with the choreography that they learn. Every drill that they went through was aimed at helping them in different aspects of performing, whether it was endurance on stage or being able to hit angles with their arms. Compared to the last session, this one taught me more of the technicalities of choreography, or "choreo" as they called it. I was asked to do a simple assignment afterwards by my mentor, which was to create 3 different patterns for across-the-floors. I have a good idea of what to do but this is definitely a new hurdle that I have to get over.

Session 1: The Ropes

Friday was the first time I was able to experience what it's like to be in a legitimate dance studio with an actual dance company. Even though I've had some experience in a studio, I've never witnessed a dance practice with a company. Throughout the entire practice, my mentor talked about the basics of choreography and I even got to be a part of their dance practice. It was a good first day, and I've already learned a lot. My goal for next practice is to start leading and be a more active part of the company.

First Thoughts About Possible Project

I've always had two paths that would lead me to a career; the abstract and the technical. In terms of the abstract, I've always wanted to pursue a career in professional choreography and in music. On the more technical side, I've had a dream in physical therapy.

In college, I plan to get a major in dance, music and in physical therapy.
